I have made it clear that I will not attempt to reproduce any color that is not presented to me in physical form (a piece of cloth, paper, plastic, paint chips, something tangible); verbal descriptions or names (say, sea coral) will not be honored. I won’t even try. It sounds harsh, but trying to match someone else’s color description is something I simply am not capable of doing.

If you are working with a group that is loosely organized (or completely unorganized), you are pretty much left to your own devices and can make things up as you go along, but you won’t get much feedback. As the group develops, some policies may just fall into place and you can suggest others. However, in a more organized or developed group, you may want to set things up in advance. Make sure the organization understands your time limitations and what you hope to get out of this. It will save you the time and trouble of having to turn down impossible or unreasonable requests repeatedly in the future.

These sentiments are sincerely felt, but don’t be fooled for a moment. If you take this on, it will be some time and effort on your part, at least initially a chunk of time and effort to set it up, and at least a little time and effort on a regular basis to maintain it.
