Schmidt’s deep appreciation of the intimate relationship between the two attracted the attention of Prussia’s minister of culture, Johann Albrecht Friedrich Eichhorn, who was looking for someone to help revamp the state’s medical system. Why they would have expected this is unclear, but when Caroline Fredericke was told that she would be practicing instead near the Hamburg gate, the family had to move again, and the Zakrzewskis were caught paying rent on two apartments.
