The stigmata are almost as long as those of the officinal plant, and especially gory in colour. Among corms I collected on the Lycabettos when I was in Athens, I found a good deal of variation, some being nearly white, but none lacked the veinings characteristic of the typical form. There is a good pure-white form in cultivation, however, and also a larger plant sometimes sold as Cartwrightianus albus, but more like an albino of the true Saffron. This last is one of the most lovely, for it is richly marked with a fine shade of blue-purple at the throat.
